Associate Director, KYC
Airwallex – UK - Birmingham

About Airwallex

Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.

We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,300 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles to see it in full.

How you'll make impact

You'll lead second-line oversight of Airwallex's global KYC, Enhanced Due Diligence and periodic review frameworks, providing independent challenge, governance and policy execution across the Financial Crime Compliance function. You'll partner with KYC Operations and Analysts to strengthen quality, consistency and risk-based decision-making across onboarding and ongoing customer reviews, while overseeing Customer Risk Acceptance reviews and sign-offs for complex and higher-risk customers.

  • Own and continuously elevate Airwallex’s global KYC strategy, policy framework, and second-line governance across all operating jurisdictions.

  • Own independent second-line oversight across global KYC, Enhanced Due Diligence and periodic review functional controls and operational activities.

  • Own KYC policy and procedure development and maintenance, with primary authority for providing interpretive guidance and direction to first line operations and second line advisory teams on application of global and regional requirements as part of onboarding and ongoing reviews.

  • Partner with KYC Operations in development and enhancement of KYC control processes, driving performance of high quality onboarding and ongoing customer reviews at the required standard, provide direction and oversight to production of meaningful management information to ensure visibility and support informed decision making for FCC senior management. Drive stronger quality, consistency and risk-based decision-making across customer onboarding and ongoing reviews.

  • Improve the quality of Customer Risk Acceptance reviews by challenging risk identification, testing mitigations and producing clear, decision-ready recommendations.

  • Advise Commercial and Sales teams on complex deal structures, novel business models and high-risk customer profiles.

  • Partner with Product, Data and Engineering to embed regulatory controls, decision frameworks and AI-enabled improvements into scalable systems and workflows, including definition of KYC data requirements.

  • Maintain high standards of compliance documentation, quality assurance and audit readiness while adapting KYC and AML standards to global regulatory and enforcement developments.

You'll primarily work remotely, aligned toour Birmingham office, with occasional in office presence in Birmingham or London to support team meetings and regulatory engagement.

What we're looking for

Essentials

  • 10+ years of relevant AML/KYC experience focused on complex corporate clients, financial institutions or fintech platforms.

  • A strong track record designing, managing and governing scalable second-line KYC frameworks.

  • 3+ years' experience leading, mentoring or managing compliance teams, with a focus on operational rigor, analytical excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrated experience providing second-line oversight, independent challenge and risk-based decision-making across KYC, Enhanced Due Diligence and periodic review activities.

  • Experience supporting regulatory examination processes and engagement.

  • Experience reviewing or approving Customer Risk Acceptance documentation, identifying risk, assessing mitigations and producing clear, decision-ready recommendations.

  • Experience overseeing compliance reviews or walkthroughs for complex corporate, embedded finance or platform clients.

  • Proven ability to advise senior Commercial and Sales stakeholders on complex deal structures, novel business models and high-risk customer profiles.

  • Proven ability to partner with Product, Engineering, Data and Business stakeholders to translate compliance requirements into scalable, automated workflows.

  • Strong leadership, communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to explain complex compliance decisions clearly to senior executives, regulatory authorities and external partners.

Preferred

  • Experience leveraging or evaluating AI-enabled tools in compliance or KYC workflows, with an understanding of responsible implementation, regulatory defensibility and internal controls.

  • Experience in FinTech, global cross-border payments, RegTech, management consulting or digital asset environments.

  • CAMS, CFCS, CFE or equivalent industry certification.

  • A quantitative, technical, legal or data-oriented degree.

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slack, Mac environments, modern data tools and AI-assisted workflow platforms.

  • Experience monitoring regulatory, enforcement and industry developments across cross-border payments, global banking or digital assets.

You'll thrive here if

  • You own the outcome and you don't wait for permission to fix what's broken.

  • You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and moving quickly anyway.

  • You've operated in a compliance-heavy environment and know how to move fast without cutting the corners that matter.

  • You communicate clearly and directly across cultures, and you're thoughtful about how context shifts meaning across borders.

  • You connect dots across functions and hold the big picture without losing grip on the details.

Learn more about your team

Regulatory & Compliance is where we build the trust, discipline, and operational resilience required to scale a generational financial platform.

As Airwallex grows across 30+ markets, this team turns regulatory complexity into strategic control. You'll lead compliance, enterprise risk, and regulatory engagement in a way that protects the business while letting it move with conviction. Our ambition goes beyond meeting expectations: we're building a risk posture that acts as a competitive moat, grounded in ownership, proactive regulatory partnerships, and frameworks that scale globally while respecting local nuance.

If you want to architect the benchmark for trust and resilience in global finance, your work here will have a massive impact.

FP&A Data Analyst
Arq – London

What we're looking for

Do you like knowing exactly why a number moved? As an FP&A Data Analyst at ARQ, you'll own the data foundations behind our revenue, cost and management reporting. You'll sit between Finance and Engineering: building the models that tell us how the business is performing, keeping them accurate every day, and turning them into insight that leadership uses to make decisions.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is as comfortable in a dbt project or a Python codebase as in a P&L. You'll work closely with Finance, Treasury and Engineering, and your work will feed management, investor and regulatory reporting directly.

What you'll be doing

  • Own the finance data layer: Maintain and extend our dbt repo. That means building and refactoring models, writing tests, and keeping finance data clean, documented and reliable.

  • Revenue and cost models: Build and maintain the models behind revenue, unit economics and operations costs (payment rails, FX, card, banking partners, vendors) across our markets.

  • Management accounts: Support daily and monthly management accounts on both accrual and cash basis. Reconcile them to source systems and explain movements.

  • Budgeting and forecasting: Feed actuals into the budget and forecast, run variance analysis, and help Finance understand what is driving performance.

  • Python services: Help maintain and improve the internal Python services and pipelines that support finance reporting and reconciliation.

  • Data mapping and requirements: Map data sources across our product and payments stack, and document business logic and assumptions so others can trust and reuse your work.

  • Onboard new business: When we launch a new product, partner or market, make sure it flows correctly into financial reporting, controls and processes.

  • Dashboards and reporting: Build and improve dashboards with Finance and Controllership that track key metrics and surface business drivers.

  • Anomalies and controls: Spot breaks, unusual spikes or data quality issues early, find the root cause, and fix it at the source.

  • Data literacy: Help the wider team understand and self-serve finance data.

What you'll need

  • 3+ years in a data, analytics or FP&A role, ideally in fintech, banking or payments

  • Strong SQL and solid Python

  • Hands-on experience with dbt (or a similar transformation tool) and version control (Git)

  • A good grasp of financial statements, management accounts and core finance concepts (accruals, revenue recognition, unit economics)

  • A quantitative background, through education or experience

  • Strong attention to detail and a quality-first mindset, while still able to work to tight deadlines

  • Clear communication: you can explain a variance to a CFO and a data model to an engineer

  • Initiative to automate repetitive work and improve how things are done

Nice to have

  • Experience with regulatory or external reporting

  • Exposure to reconciliations, treasury or general ledger data

  • Experience with BI tools (Metabase, Looker, Power BI) and orchestration tools (Airflow or similar)

  • Experience maintaining production code: code review, testing, CI/CD

  • Spanish or Portuguese proficiency

Benefits

  • Competitive salary

  • Sign-on stock options bonus, so you share in the company's success

  • Discretionary performance bonus (stock options)

  • Paid annual leave

  • Real ownership of work that directly affects how the business is run

  • The latest technology to work with

  • A strong team that will help you grow your skills

Senior Software Engineer | Platform
Arq – London

About ARQ

ARQ is one of the fastest-growing fintechs in the world. Our mission is to redefine how people interact with money across borders, building the infrastructure to move value seamlessly. We’re still early in our journey, which means every person who joins shapes the future of our product, culture, and growth. If you’re excited by big challenges, global impact, and the chance to grow fast with a world-class team, ARQ is the place to do it.

What we're looking for

We’re looking for a world-class, hands-on Senior Software Engineer to join our Platform team who takes a software engineer’s approach to architecting and building engineering infrastructure.

Our engineering culture is focused on fully type-safe, declarative & testable infrastructure as code and we’re looking for like-minded engineers who also value these properties to join us.

The ideal candidate will have a raw passion for programming, a broad knowledge base and the ability to dig deeply into any technical area required to enable our product engineering team to deliver the best product on the market for managing modern finances.

We architect extreme-quality, automated systems to orchestrate hundreds of backend services & databases across tens of kubernetes clusters, tens of thousands of data processing jobs and tens of thousands of CI/CD builds per week - if that excites you, we want to talk to you.

What you'll be doing

  • The design and implementation of the secure, highly-available infrastructure layer that powers a modern, high-growth, financial services company.

  • Ensure our product engineering organisation can spin up new infrastructure in an unimpeded and rapid manner, through the careful design and implementation of shared IaC libraries, cli tools and codebase patterns.

  • Problem-solve, analyse and debug infrastructure issues & opportunities with members of the wider engineering team.

  • Strategise & execute on the rollout techniques for making sweeping infrastructure changes as we constantly integrate new best practices & security improvements into our setup.

  • Orchestrate multi-region infrastructure and deployments to meet security, availability and compliance requirements.

  • Build, maintain & optimise high-volume CI infrastructure, along with reusable pipeline templates suitable for a microservices architecture.

  • Implement GitOps workflows for declarative application deployments.

  • Improve application monitoring and alerting with Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana.

What you'll need

Required Experience

  • Software Engineering Foundation: Strong background in full-cycle software development. You should be as comfortable building a customer-facing API as you are provisioning a Kubernetes cluster.

  • System Design: Experience driving the architecture and implementation of large-scale, distributed production systems.

  • Strong Programming Skills: Fluent in at least one modern typed language (e.g., TypeScript, Go, Rust, or Java). We write code, not just config.

  • Modern Infrastructure Stack: Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, CI/CD, and sophisticated IaC (Pulumi, Terraform, or CDK).

  • Security Mindset: Deep understanding of modern cyber-security attack vectors and how to bake "secure-by-default" patterns into the platform.

Nice to Have

  • TypeScript Fluency: Experience with TypeScript and systems to ensure infrastructure safety.

  • Fintech Expertise: Experience working within regulated environments or high-compliance industries.

  • Data Infrastructure: Familiarity with scaling data engineering pipelines and distributed databases.

  • GitOps: Experience with ArgoCD or Flux for declarative, state-driven deployments.

What We Value

  • Systems thinking - understanding how distributed systems work end-to-end

  • Problem-solving - methodical debugging of complex infrastructure issues

  • Collaboration - working with engineering teams to understand their needs

  • Documentation - clear runbooks, technical documentation, and knowledge sharing

  • Pragmatism - balancing technical excellence with practical delivery

Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience

  • Sign-on stock options bonus

  • Discretionary performance bonus (stock options)

  • Paid annual leave

  • Own the platform that directly impacts customer experience

  • Work with modern DevOps practices and cutting-edge technology

  • Strong team focused on continuous learning and knowledge sharing

  • Influence technical direction and architecture decisions

Software Engineer
Axle Careers – London

About Us

At Axle Energy, we’re building the infrastructure that will underpin the decarbonised energy system. Our software moves energy usage to times when electricity is cheap and green, by controlling vehicle charging, heating systems, and home batteries. We control hundreds of thousands of energy assets.

We’re building in a legacy industry and moving gigawatt-hours of electrons in the real world, but we operate at lightning speed, and we’re growing the team to meet customer demand.

We’re proud to be supported by world-leading investors, including Energize Capital and Accel.

Read more about what we’re building here.

About the role

Software Engineers at Axle build the core infrastructure for connecting to distributed energy devices, orchestrating them, and allowing them to participate in electricity markets.

This is a generalist Software Engineering role, encompassing product-engineering, devops, and data engineering. We encourage engineers to own as much of the problem-space as they can: you’ll spend time talking to clients, getting feedback from users, and working closely with market operators.

At Axle, we work in a deliberately flat structure. That means fewer layers, faster decisions, and more ownership for everyone.

Software engineering at Axle looks like

  • Forming a deep understanding of the domain & the business, so you have enough context to execute independently at speed

  • Focusing on outcomes, not process, and taking ownership for the end product you ship into the world

  • Managing your own time and those of others to adapt to changing scope and deadlines, delivering 80% of the value in 20% of the time

Tech stack

🐍 We build in Python + React for the frontend

🐋 Everything we build lives in Docker, for minimal cross-platform faff and maximal reproducibility.
🤖 Unlimited Claude Code tokens - we are aggressive users and explorers of AI, and encourage everybody to reconsider their workflows regularly

☁️ We deploy on GCP

What's in it for you

A meaningful slice of equity in Axle, alongside a competitive salary, with total compensation ranging from £75k–£200k (base salary + equity).

We operate with a deliberately flat structure and aim to keep pay equitable across the company, with a 1:1 median ratio between founder and team compensation.

Enhanced parental leave to support you through life's meaningful moments.

Bi-annual retreats to strengthen team connection & shared purpose.

Hybrid working - We have a dog-friendly office around Farringdon. To maximize collaboration, we ask that you spend 2-3 days a week in the office.

The opportunity to directly shape the future of energy markets and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon world.

We are extremely keen to build a diverse company, and we’re particularly eager to hear from candidates who don't fit the traditional role stereotypes. If you’re motivated by our mission, please do reach out, even if you feel you might not ‘check all the boxes’.

Interview process

  1. Initial interview

  2. Remote pair programming

  3. Final interview (in-person)

  4. Offer, references, and welcome to the team!

Compensation: £75K – £200K

International Expansion

Axle has quickly become the leader in our operational markets, and we’re now looking to expand our reach internationally.

Our goal is to become the go-to platform for energy flexibility globally, and we’re hiring the person to make that happen.

This role will assess Axle’s future markets and business models from first principles: diving deep into regulations, modelling revenue-per-asset, and trialling new propositions at startup-urgent pace.

What you will be doing

  • High-level strategy development, defining and executing Axle’s international expansion plans, and assessing the commercial value of new markets and business models

  • Diving deep into policy and regulations, understanding how market access works and what needs doing to achieve it

  • Developing the zero-to-one of the business through partnerships with key stakeholders. You’ll be jumping on the phone (and eventually, getting on the ground) with grid operators, utilities/retailers and potential clients to create and disprove hypotheses as quickly as possible.

  • Building the aeroplane as it flies: getting hands dirty with implementation as each international business scales, scoping and setting up pilots, tracking down partners and building relationships.

As such, we are looking for a “full-stack operator” who can process highly technical information, sniff out commercial value, and run through walls to get us into markets at speed.

You might have previous experience in one or more of the activities above, but we are more interested in your growth potential than your domain-specific expertise. We are looking for people who have built things, developed new relationships, and helped get ambitious projects over the line in complex environments.

This is an opportunity to repeatedly deliver first-of-a-kind projects across the world, become a domain expert, and work at the bleeding edge of global electrification.

  2. Take-home exercise

  3. Final interview (in-person)

  4. Offer, additional references, and welcome to the team!

Compensation: £75K – £200K

Product Design
Axle Careers – London

About Us

We’re proud to be supported by world-leading investors, including Accel.

Read more about what we’re building here.

About the role

We’re looking for our first product designer to level-up design throughout the company.

Axle is building cutting-edge energy products across the sector - from simple offerings for mass-market consumers, through to advanced tooling for early adopters and enthusiasts. We’re innovating to solve new and complex problems where there’s no established answers and where the customer experience is key.

We have a highly autonomous, flat structure, delivering our products in small interdisciplinary teams of engineers and PMs. We want to add a design voice as a pillar to this: understanding our users, leading our strategic direction, and ensuring the customer is always represented.

You’ll operate across the business to raise the quality of all our design output - through both direct delivery, as well as enablement and coaching of others.

Alongside this, we’re looking for ownership and support on how Axle represents itself externally - to our prospects, clients, investors and potential employees.

What you will be doing:

  • Understanding user problems and designing great experiences to solve them

  • Building the systems that allow for strategic and scalable solutions - in Claude and code - to allow everybody to ship beautiful software, faster

  • Deepening our culture of user research and getting into the weeds of how people experience Axle's products, both B2C and B2B2C

  • Leading on our visual identity and finding new ways to tell Axle's story, through web, animation, and video

  • Working with global clients to help them to improve their user experiences

This could be a good fit if:

  • You're energised by ambiguity and take a pragmatic, outcome-first approach

  • You’re excited about bringing sophisticated technology to a broader audience and are happy to get into the technical details to do this

  • You’re deeply curious about the world and how people experience it

  • You have a strong aesthetic sense and know what good looks like.

What's in it for you:

Analytics Engineer

Axle has quickly become the leader in our operational markets, and we are looking for someone to help run and optimise the rhythms at the heart of the business.

We are looking for someone to develop a deep understanding of flexibility markets across the UK, who can collaborate cross-functionally, crunch numbers, and own critical daily and monthly operational processes.

Owning daily operations means sitting at the heart of the ‘Axle control room’. This involves running and optimising the most critical operations processes in the business: asset management, trading across UK flexibility markets, and ultimately ensuring our clients and end customers get paid for the flex they deliver.

A note on the job title: Analytics engineering is often closely associated with dbt. We don't use dbt at Axle because our data set up doesn't require a full ETL framework. Instead, this role is centred on the core analytics engineering skill set: developing a deep understanding of source data and building the data pipelines that power our analytics.

What you will be doing

  • Owning operations for our UK energy trading (e.g. daily trading processes, reviewing settlements)

  • Debugging complex edge cases across our trading, asset registration and settlement processes

  • Identifying risks to revenue and delivery and proactively mitigate them

  • Communicating insights and actions clearly to engineering and commercial teams

  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and UK market regulators

It would be great if you had

  • Strong SQL and Python skills for analysing data, investigating issues, and automating processes

  • Strong analytical skills: you’ll be speaking MW, kWh, and £ every day

  • A deep-seated motivation to combat climate change

  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment

Benefits
